SMOKING IN PREGNANCY

Emotional Wellbeing - Man Meditating

It's never too late

INTRODUCTION

Congratulations on taking the first step to a new healthier start for you and your baby!

Stopping smoking will benefit both you and your baby immediately. Harmful gases like Carbon Monoxide will begin to clear from your body straight away. Protecting your baby from tobacco smoke (Carbon Monoxide in particular) is one of the best things you can do to give your child a healthy start in life. It's never too late to stop smoking. Every cigarette you smoke contains Carbon Monoxide (among other chemicals), so smoking when you are pregnant harms your unborn baby. The Carbon Monoxide in cigarettes can restrict the essential oxygen supply to your baby, so their heart has to beat harder every time you smoke.

Lifestyle Services offers a variety of ways to help you stop smoking if you are pregnant, or are planning a pregnancy and want to remain smoke-free after your baby arrives.

To make your appointment to see a Specialist Practitioner in Smoking and Pregnancy:

  • Contact us directly on 01472 325500
  • Ask your GP/Midwife to refer you
  • Text 'baby' to 07860025562 - we will contact you within 1 day of you being referred by your midwife.

Following your booking in appointment, your Midwife will ask us to contact you. We can then arrange the best way to support you with your stopping smoking. We can offer a range of appointments in the community to suit your busy life. For clients who are unable to access clinic venues it may be possible to arrange a home visit or telephone support.
