Congratulations on taking the first step to a new healthier start for you and your baby!
Stopping smoking will benefit both you and your baby immediately. Harmful gases like Carbon Monoxide will begin to clear from your body straight away. Protecting your baby from tobacco smoke (Carbon Monoxide in particular) is one of the best things you can do to give your child a healthy start in life. It's never too late to stop smoking. Every cigarette you smoke contains Carbon Monoxide (among other chemicals), so smoking when you are pregnant harms your unborn baby. The Carbon Monoxide in cigarettes can restrict the essential oxygen supply to your baby, so their heart has to beat harder every time you smoke.
Lifestyle Services offers a variety of ways to help you stop smoking if you are pregnant, or are planning a pregnancy and want to remain smoke-free after your baby arrives.
